Cylinder Head Bolts - Service Procedure Revision
Article No. 85-19-5CYLINDER HEAD BOLT (2.0L DIESELS BUILT AFTER MAY 5, 1985) - REVISED BOLT AND SERVICE PROCEDURE
FORD 1985 ESCORT, TEMPO
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1985 LYNX, TOPAZ
Longer head bolts were incorporated on 2.0L diesel engines assembled after May 5, 1985. The bolts are 0.5 mm longer and provide for improved torque qualities when reuse of the bolt is required. The new bolt can be identified by the smooth surface at the bolt head and a 3.0 mm hole drilled in the center of the head.
Head bolts without the hole (pan number E43Z-6065- C) are to be discarded whenever a head is serviced and are to be replaced with the revised bolt (part number E53Z-6065-A).
Use the torque procedure outlined in Section 22-06 of the 1985 Car Shop Manual, Volume E.
NOTE: When the revised bolts are to be reused, measure each bolt using the specifications as follows: "If the measurement is more than 115.0 mm (4.6 inches), replace the bolt." The above information should be inserted in your 1986 Car Shop Manual, Volume E, Section and page 22-06-31.
