July, 1989

TO: Selected North American Ford and Lincoln-Mercury Product Dealers and Affiliated Ford Motor Companies

SUBJECT: Safety Recall 89S65 - 1985 1/2 Escort and Lynx Cars Equipped With 1.9L Engines For Inspection and, if Necessary, Replacement of Rocker Arm Cover Gaskets

AFFECTED VEHICLES

All 1985 1/2 Escort and Lynx cars equipped with 1.9L engines.

REASON FOR RECALL

The rocker arm cover gasket may split over time. Should this occur, engine oil could leak from the rocker cover onto a hot exhaust manifold. Oil leaking on a hot manifold under certain conditions could ignite, possibly causing an engine compartment fire.

To correct this condition, the rocker arm cover gasket will be inspected and, if necessary, replaced.
