Compressor/Pump: Service and Repair
1985---86
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Open stowage compartment door panel in left rear side panel on station wagon models or remove righthand luggage compartment side trim panel on sedan models.
3. Remove air line from dryer by pushing retainer downward and pulling air line out.
4. Disconnect module electrical connector.
5. Remove air inlet hose by pulling hose away from grommet.
6. Remove bracket-to-floor pan attaching screws and bracket-to-body attaching screws.
7. On station wagon models only, remove pump relay electrical connectors from mounting bracket.
8. Disconnect electrical connector from air compressor.
9. Remove three compressor-to-bracket mounting bolts and separate pump from bracket assembly.
10. On 1986 Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis models, remove air compressor mounting bracket from fender apron.
11. Reverse procedure to install. On 1985 Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis and 1985---86 Lincoln Town Car, torque mount bolts to 12---20 ft. lbs., and mounting screw to 13---19 inch lbs. On all models, torque compressor to mount attaching bolts to 30---40 inch lbs. On 1986 Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis models, torque mounting bracket to fender apron attaching bolts and nuts to 6---13 ft. lbs.
