Any time a self-test service code 42 is obtained on the listed vehicles, it is necessary to verify the code before conducting pinpoint tests or making any repairs.
To verify code 42, run the engine at 2000 RPM in park for one minute. With engine running at 2000 RPM, activate Engine Running Self-Test. Do not change throttle position during test.
Disregard all service codes except 42. If code 42 is not repeated, the original code 42 may be ignored. If code 42 is repeated, refer to Section 19, Pinpoint Test HC 10, Volume H of the Car Shop Manual.
Finally, repeat the self-test and correct any other service codes that occur.
