Subject: Owner Notification Program B47 - Electronic Engine Control Processor on Certain 1984-Model Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis Vehicles
The purpose of this letter is to advise you of Owner Notification Program B47 and to provide technical and administrative instructions (Attachment I) and a copy of the letter being sent by the Company to owners (Attachment II).
We have found that the electronic engine control processor (EEC IV) installed on some of the subject vehicles may have been manufactured without a harness connector gasket. The absence of the gasket could allow moisture to enter the processor. If this occurs, affected vehicles may exhibit adverse driveability conditions such as stumbling and surging due to the intermittent operation of the processor.
The vehicles involved in this program were manufactured at the St. Louis Assembly Plant from the start of 1984-model production through August 18, 1983.
The enclosed listing identifies vehicles involved in this program reported to have been delivered to your dealership. Owners of these vehicles will be notified to return their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln-Mercury dealership to have the electronic engine control processor inspected and, if necessary, have a harness connector gasket installed. This service is to be provided at no charge to the owners. We ask that you contact owners of recently delivered vehicles whose names and addresses do not appear on the listing. Arrange with those owners to have their vehicles inspected as promptly as possible. All stock vehicles involved in this program are to be inspected and, if necessary, corrected prior to delivery to purchasers.
