Vehicles Involved, Technical Instructions, Repair and Parts Ordering - Attachment I

VEHICLES INVOLVED

The vehicles involved in this program are certain 1984-model Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis vehicles manufactured at the St. Louis Assembly Plant (code "Z" in position 11 of the VIN) from the start of 1984-model production through August 18, 1983.

TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS INSPECTION

1. Locate the electronic engine control processor (EEC IV) which is mounted to the underside of the instrument panel and to the left of the steering column.

2. Inspect the processor to determine if a harness connector gasket must be added. Add a gasket only if one or more of the following conditions are observed:

^ The part number stamped on the right side of the processor is E4VF-12A650-G2A or H2A or J2A.

^ The "Warranty Item, Do Not Open" tag on the left side of the processor has black letters.

^ The assembly plant tear tag on the end of the processor that faces passenger compartment has black letters on a blue background.

^ The processor case material is die cast metal.

3. If the inspection reveals that a gasket must be added, proceed with the following steps. If it is not necessary to add a gasket, no further action is required.

REPAIR

1. If the vehicle is equipped with speed control, remove the speed control servo mounted on the left (driver side) fender apron. Retain the two attaching nuts.

2. Remove the processor wiring harness connector located in the left (driver side) of the engine compartment up near the brake booster.

3. Install a harness connector gasket (part number E4AZ-14A297-A) assuring that all of the male pins in connector protrude through the gasket.

4. Reinstall the processor wiring harness connector. Torque the mounting bolts to 5.4-5.6 N-m (48-50 in.lbs.).

5. Reinstall the speed control servo to the bracket on the fender apron. Torque the two attaching nuts to 5-7 N-m (45-62 in.lbs.).

6. Perform a "Key On, Engine Off" Vehicle-In-Process (VIP) self test sequence. Refer to Section 16 of the 1984 Car/Truck Shop Manual - Emission Diagnosis Engine/Electronics.
