ATTACHMENT II
Dear Crown Victoria or Grand Marquis Owner:
The purpose of this letter is to advise you of a service program initiated by Ford Motor Company that involves certain 1984-model Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis vehicles. Our records indicate that you own a vehicle eligible for the program which bears the serial number shown on the envelope that contained this letter. (If you own more than one eligible car, the serial numbers are shown on the listing attached to this letter.)
REASON FOR THE PROGRAM:
We have found that the electronic engine control processor installed in your vehicle may have been manufactured without a harness connector gasket. The absence of the gasket could allow moisture to enter the processor. If this occurs, your vehicle may exhibit rough engine operation due to the intermittent operation of the processor.
DESCRIPTION OF FORD'S PROGRAM:
We ask that you return your vehicle to any Ford or Lincoln-Mercury dealership at your earliest convenience. The dealer will inspect the electronic engine control processor on your vehicle and, if necessary, install a harness connector gasket. This service will be provided at no charge to you.
TO HAVE THIS SERVICE PERFORMED:
Please contact any Ford or Lincoln-Mercury dealership to arrange an appointment for service. All dealerships have been advised of this program, and can assist you as necessary.
This program will expire November 30, 1984. The electronic engine control processor of your vehicle, however, is eligible for Ford's five year or 50,000 mile (whichever comes first) Emission Control Systems Defect Warranty coverage. To avoid any inconvenience you may experience as a result of the processor not operating properly, we urge you to have your vehicle inspected as soon as possible.
Ford is voluntarily taking this action as part of our ongoing effort to maintain owner confidence in our products. We appreciate your purchase of a Crown Victoria or Grand Marquis, and look forward to you continuing as a Ford customer.
Also, for your information, we have shown below the introduction announcement of the Ford Customer Information System which provides information on technical service bulletins and Ford-paid post warranty repair programs like the electronic engine control processor program described in this letter.
