Cold Engine Blower Circuit Interruption

COLD ENGINE BLOWER CIRCUIT INTERRUPTION

PERFORM THE FOLLOWING
1. Turn the ignition switch ON (do not start engine).
2. Move the blower switch to HI position.
3. Move the function control lever to FLOOR position.
a. If the engine coolant temperature is below 38° C (100° F), the blower should not operate and the outside recirculating air door should be in the recirculating position.
b. If the engine coolant temperature is above 49° C (120° F), the blower should turn on and the outside recirculating air door should be in the outside air position.
c. If results of Steps a or b are not satisfactory, proceed to Step 4.
4. Remove radiator cap following normal safety procedures. Insert a thermometer into coolant in the radiator. Start engine and operate at idle speed until coolant reaches a temperature of at least 72° C (160° F).

Thermal Blower Lockout Switch:

5. The blower should be operating. If not, disconnect electrical connector from Thermal Blower Lockout Switch (TBL) and connect jumper wire between connector terminals in wiring harness.
6. If blower operates, check TBL switch for continuity.
7. If switch is open, replace switch. If switch is closed, check connector contacts.
