Vehicle performance has been improved by wiring the alternator field circuit to the wide open throttle cutout to ensure that the alternator will not charge during heavy acceleration.

Technicians diagnosing the alternator circuit for a noncharging condition should make sure the circuit does not have a blown fuse and the wide open throttle cutout contacts are closed (except during W.O.T. operation) before proceeding with normal alternator diagnostic procedures. Refer to wire diagram, Figure 4.
