Technical, Parts, Labor, & Completions Reporting
Technical and Administrative InstructionsRepair
1. Locate the existing distributor modulator valve switch assembly (part number E3ZE-12A182-CA; color: light green) installed on the rear of the left (driver side) strut tower.
2. Disconnect the vacuum and electrical connections. Remove the switch.
3. Install the revised distributor modulator valve switch assembly (service part number E4ZZ-12A182-A; color: violet).
4. Reconnect the vacuum and electrical connections.
Inspection
1. Remove the air cleaner assembly from the vehicle. Plug the manifold vacuum hose to the air cleaner. Plug the rubber connector for the thermal vacuum switch (TVS).
2. Visually inspect the front carburetor bowl vent hose to determine if the hose is kinked. If kinked, remove the hose from the bowl vent tube and cut one inch from the end. Rotate the hose, if necessary, to eliminate the kink. Reinstall the hose to the bowl vent tube.
3. Visually inspect the entire vacuum system for missed connections, pinched or kinked hoses, and damaged components. Correct any concerns that are found. Special attention should be given to the purge control valve and fuel vapor storage canister lines and the manifold vacuum "tree" on the firewall.
4. Check the EGR valve function at stablized engine temperature as follows:
Rev the engine from closed throttle to 2,500-3,000 RPM repeatedly and observe the EGR valve diaphragm travel. If the travel is less than one-eighth (1/8) inch, perform a more thorough inspection of all lines and components in the EGR vacuum system. Correct any vacuum leaks necessary to help assure the proper EGR valve diaphragm travel.
4. Prepare an Authorized Modifications decal (Form FPS-8262) as shown. Install the decal to a flat and clean surface on the radiator support.
