Dear Owner:
This notice is sent to you by the Ford Motor Company because we want the emission control systems on all of our products to work properly. We have found that some 1984-model Mustang and Capri vehicles which have the 5.0L high-output engine and five-speed manual transmission may require modification to help assure acceptable levels of vehicle emissions. Our records indicate that you own one of these vehicles which is identified by the serial number shown on the enclosed form.

Your vehicle is equipped with an emission control system that may be releasing air pollutants which would exceed California standards.
SERVICE TO BE PERFORMED:
Ford is voluntarily recalling your vehicle to correct this condition. We will install a revised distributor modulator valve switch assembly. As an added measure to help assure proper emission system function, some engine compartment inspections will be performed. This service will be provided at no charge to you.
IF YOU NO LONGER OWN THE VEHICLE:
Please remove the prepaid return postcard from the enclosed form (identified as FCS 1864). Complete Section 1, and return it to us. This information is needed to update our records.
