FORD INTEGRAL CARRIER w/C-LOCK TYPE AXLE RETENTION

1. Raise and support rear of vehicle.
2. Remove wheel and tire assembly and brake drum.
3. Remove rear axle housing cover and drain lubricant.
4. Remove differential pinion lock screw and differential pinion shaft.
5. Remove wheel speed sensor, if equipped. Damage to sensor may occur if sensor is not removed before axle shaft.
6. Push axle shafts inward and remove C-locks, Fig. 3.
7. Remove axle shaft from housing using care not to damage oil seal.
8. Remove bearing and seal as an assembly using a suitable slide hammer, Fig. 7, if necessary. Two types of bearing are used, Fig. 9. One requires a light press fit in the housing flange, while on the other a loose fit is acceptable. Therefore, if a loose fitting bearing is encountered, it does not indicate excessive wear or damage.
9. Lubricate bearing with rear axle lubricant and install bearing into housing bore using tool No. T78P-1225-A.
10. Install axle shaft seal into housing using tool No. T78P-1177-A, Fig. 8.
