1. Remove air cleaner, then drain cooling system and crankcase.
2. Remove radiator and grille.
3. On models equipped with A/C, remove condenser attaching bolts and position condenser aside. Do not disconnect refrigerant lines from condenser.
4. On 1982-84 models, disconnect accelerator control cable from carburetor and bracket, then the bracket from carburetor.
5. On all models, disconnect fuel inlet line from fuel filter.
6. Disconnect connectors and vacuum hoses connected to cylinder head from carburetor.
7. Disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold. Pull pipe down and remove gasket.
8. Disconnect carburetor fuel inlet line from fuel pump.
9. Disconnect ignition wires from spark plugs and the high tension lead from ignition coil.
10. Disconnect engine temperature sending unit electrical connector from sending unit.
11. Remove distributor, fuel pump and oil filter.
12. Remove crankcase vent hose, regulator valve, rocker arm cover, cylinder head and lifters.
13. Remove drive belt, fan and pulley, then the damper using a suitable puller.
14. On all models, remove front cover, gasket, timing chain and sprockets.
15. Remove camshaft thrust plate, then the camshaft by pulling toward front of engine, Fig. 27. Use care to avoid damaging crankshaft bearings.
16. Reverse procedure to install.

V6 & V8 ENGINES
1. Drain cooling system and remove radiator and grille.
2. If equipped with air conditioning:
a. On 255 and 302 engines, remove condenser retaining bolts and position condenser aside without disconnecting refrigerant lines.
b. On V6-232 engine, purge refrigerant from system and remove condenser.
3. Remove front cover, timing chain and sprockets.
4. Remove intake manifold.
5. Remove pushrods and lifters.
6. On V6-232 engine, remove oil pan.
7. On all models, remove thrust plate, then carefully remove camshaft by pulling toward front of engine, Fig. 28. Use care to avoid damaging camshaft bearings.
8. Reverse procedure to install.
