83ford22 Article No. 83-5-3INTERIOR TRIM - CENTER ARM REARWARD ADJUSTMENT
FORD 1983 ESCORT, EXP
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1983 LYNX, LN7
Some customers may find it uncomfortable when shifting into 4th gear with the center arm rest down and the seat adjusted to the full rearward position.
The following procedure will allow for additional rearward adjustment of the arm rest.
1. Adjust seats to maximum forward position to gain access to the arm rest and base assembly retaining screws.
2. Snap out the four trim covers on base to expose the four arm rest and base assembly to floor support bracket retaining screws. Remove screws.
FIGURE 8:
3. Lift arm rest and base assembly up off of floor support bracket.
4. Remove the three support bracket to floor retaining screws and remove support bracket.
5. Drill three new 5/16 diameter mouting holes in support bracket as shown in Figure 8.
6. Straighten center tab on the front edge of support bracket so that it is parallel with the base of the bracket.
7. Align the new mouting holes in the support bracket with the existing holes in the floor pan and install the three mounting screws.
NOTE: When removing the support bracket retaining screws some of the sealer on the screw and washer assembly is removed. Therefore, when installing the support bracket, body caulk must be applied to the underside of the washer to form a seal between the washer and support bracket.
8. Position arm rest and base assembly over the support bracket and install the four mounting screws.
NOTE: The four mounting holes in the bracket of the arm rest assembly are elongated allowing for 1/2 inch adjustment. Make sure the arm rest assembly is installed to its full rearward position.
