TFI I
Exploded View Of TFI Ignition System Distributor.:
1. Remove distributor and vacuum advance assembly, Fig. 2.
2. Using a small screwdriver or other suitable tool, remove drive coupling spring. Use care not to damage parts.
3. Clean distributor drive and then, using paint, make reference marks on distributor drive coupling and shaft to aid in reassembly.
4. Position distributor in a suitable holding device. Using a suitable drift and hammer, drive pin out of shaft and remove coupling.
5. Inspect end of shaft assembly and in area of drive pin hole for burrs. If necessary use fine emery paper to polish shaft. Wipe shaft clean prior to removal to prevent damage to seal and bushing in distributor base.
6. Remove shaft assembly by gently pulling out of distributor base.
7. Inspect distributor shaft and centrifugal advance assembly. Centrifugal advance assembly should advance freely and return to original position. If binding occurs, the entire distributor should be replaced.
8. Remove screws securing stator connector to distributor housing then screws securing the stator retainer in distributor housing. Remove connector from top of module.
9. Gently lift stator assembly out of distributor housing.
10. Pull stator retainer assembly from stator.
11. Inspect distributor O-rings, replace as necessary.
12. Inspect distributor base bushing for signs of wear and heat damage. If bushing is damaged, replace complete distributor.
13. Inspect distributor shaft oil seal. If oil seal is damaged, replace complete distributor. If seal spring retainer (inside seal) is missing or damaged, it can be replaced.
14. Inspect distributor base casting for cracks and wear. If base is cracked or worn, replace complete distributor.
15. Assemble stator retainer to stator. Position retainer so horseshoe opening of retainer is at the vacuum advance diaphragm rod pivot point.
16. Install stator assembly in distributor base with vacuum advance diaphragm pivot point positioned approximately in front of diaphragm mounting hole.
17. Install stator securing screws, ensure stator is free to rotate. If not, disassemble and check parts. Install wire connector securing screws.
18. Position module connector on top of three pins and press down to seat the connector.
19. Lightly lubricate distributor shaft and install. Do not over lubricate.
20. Reverse steps 1 through 4 to complete assembly.
