LINCOLN-MERCURY 1983 COUGAR WITH 5.0L EEC III

Idle loping, surge at 30 to 35 mph and stalling on deceleration may be resolved by installing a service jumper harness in BMAP circuit.
1. Perform the EEC diagnostics with EEC tester.
2. If normal diagnostic tests do not reveal cause of concern; Disconnect the electrical connector at the BMAP sensor and install new service jumper harness (14K082) between the BMAP sensor and electrical connector removed above. The Barometric/Manifold Absolute Pressure (BMAP) sensor mounted on left side of engine compartment, forward of the shock tower.
3. Road test vehicle. If deceleration stalls still are present, reset curb idle speed to 600-650 rpm.
Obtain an Authorized Modifications decal and list the date, dealer number and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications decal. Clean the area, install the decal and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
