Speedometer Replacement
NOTE: Federal Law requires that the odometer in any replacement speedometer must register the same mileage as that registered in the removed speedometer.The electronic speedometer can be serviced by replacement of either the electronic or mechanical portions.
SPEEDOMETER HEAD
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the instrument cluster.
3. Remove the six screws from the front of the instrument cluster backplate and separate the mask and lens assembly from the backplate.
4. Remove the switch cap nut from the English/Metric switch and remove the switch from the mask.
5. Remove the four terminal insulator from the retaining nuts on the back of the cluster assembly.
6. Remove the five retaining nuts from the electronic speedometer housing studs on the back of the cluster assembly.
7. Remove the two screws attaching the speedometer frame to the cluster backplate and remove the electronic speedometer/odometer assembly.
8. Remove one screw securing optical sensor (T-shaped component with four wires going to the circuit board) to the bridge and pull it out of its hole.
Speedometer:
9. Remove the four attaching screws from the rear of the electronic speedometer assembly and separate it from the plastic speedometer dial.
INSTALLATION
1. Position the electronic assembly to the plastic speedometer dial. Install the four screws to the rear of the electronic speedometer assembly.
2. Route the wires to the English/Metric switch through the channel above the odometer and through the hook at the end of the dial.
3. Insert the optical sensor (T-shaped component with four wires) into the rectangular hole on the odometer bridge, and install the attaching screw.
4. Position the speedometer/odometer in the backplate and install the two retaining screws.
5. Apply a 3/16 inch ball of D7AZ-19A3331-A or equivalent silicone lubricant in the drive hole of the speedometer head.
6. Attach the five terminal nuts to the electronic speedometer housing studs on the back of the cluster assembly. Install the terminal nut insulator.
7. Install the English/Metric switch to the mask and the cap on the switch.
8. Position the lens and mask assembly to the backplate and install the six attaching screws.
9. Install the cluster assembly.
10. Connect the negative battery cable.
