1. Raise rear of vehicle and support at rear body crossmember.
2. Remove stabilizer bar, if equipped, Fig. 1.
3. Lower axle housing until shock absorbers are fully extended. The axle housing must be supported with a suitable jack.
4. Position a suitable jack under lower control arm rear pivot bolt to support control arm, then remove pivot bolt.
5. Carefully lower the lower control arm until spring tension is relieved, then remove coil spring and insulator.
6. Reverse procedure to install. Torque lower control arm pivot bolt to 70---100 ft. lbs. on except 1982 models, or 90---100 ft. lbs. on 1982 models, with suspension at curb height.
