General Information
Some 1983 Mustang and Capri models with V8-302 engines equipped with Holley 4180-C carburetors may exhibit hard starting, stalling or poor performance due to binding choke linkage and improper functioning of the secondary throttle system. This condition can be corrected by making several alterations when overhauling the carburetor. If choke cap identification number is 47R-705A, replace it with part No. E3PZ-9848-N. Discard choke housing assembly and replace it with part No. E3PZ-9849-W, ensuring that O-ring is in position over brass sleeve when installing. Discard gasket between secondary throttle diaphragm housing and replace it with part No. B7A-9853-D, ensuring that inner diameter of gasket is approximately .200 inches and not .170 inches. When installing choke cap, use choke gasket E4PZ-9E515-A with breakaway screws E3PZ-9F671-A and the original Phillips head screw. Ensure that clearance between choke link and air horn tower is at least .005 inch when choke plate is in maximum vertical position.
