ATX TRANSAXLE - ENGINE SPEED-UP DURING THE 2-3 SHIFT


FORD 1981-82 ESCORT/EXP SO EQUIPPED

1981-82 LYNX/LN7 SO EQUIPPED

A customer concern of engine speed-up during the 2-3 shift on a vehicle equipped with the ATX transaxle, may be serviced as follows:


1. Remove the main control assembly from the transaxle as shown on page 17-25-115 of the 1982 Car Shop Manual Volumee E.

2. Remove the separator plate from the main control (Reference page 17-25-84, Volume E.).

3. Remove and discard the # 2 check ball (Figure 23).


4. Some main control assemblies were built without the # 2 check ball. In these control assemblies, it will be necessary for the technician to rework the separator plate as shown in Figure 24.

5. Assemble the reworked separator plate and new gasket to the main control.

6. Install the main control in the transaxle, as shown on page 17-25-115 (Volume E).
