Suspension Spring ( Coil / Leaf ): Service and Repair






Removal
1. Raise vehicle on a hoist and place a floor jack under lower control arm. Raise lower control arm to curb position.

NOTE: If a twin hoist is used, vehicle must be supported on jack stands placed under jack pads of the underbody FORWARD of the tie rod bracket.

2. Remove tire and wheel assembly.
3. Remove nut, bolt, and washer retaining the lower control arm to the spindle.
4. Slowly lower control arm with floor jack until spring can be removed.

Installation
1. The spring insulator must be replaced when servicing spring.










2. Index the insulator on the spring and press insulator DOWNWARD until it snaps into place. Check again to insure insulator is properly indexed against tip of the spring.






3. Install the spring in control arm and make sure that the spring is properly seated in the spring pocket of the control arm. This must be done prior to placing spring and insulator into pocket in the body.
4. RAISE control arm and spring with the floor jack. Position the spring in pocket on the underbody.
5. Using a new bolt, nut, and washers, attach control arm to spindle. This bolt is installed with the HEAD to the FRONT of the vehicle. Tighten to torque of 122-135 N-m (90-100 lb-ft).
6. Install tire and wheel.
7. Remove floor jack and lower vehicle.
