Gradual loss of engine power, and possible stops, during acceleration after hot soak, can be attributable to an over-temperature condition with the engine off.
As for the 1982 calibrations, the cooling fan should be allowed to continue to run after the engine has been shut off until the coolant temperature has been reduced to 220°F or less. Service as follows:
Figure 11:
Figure 12:
The cooling fan relay (with a green connector) is located on the dash panel extension on the driver's side of the ignition module (Figure 11).
NOTE: If circuit #37 (Yellow) feeds both relay terminals, the vehicle has the run-on feature and does not require a rework.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Figure 13:
2. Cut the (Yellow - Circuit #37) and the (Light Green with Yellow Stripe - Circuit #354) about 2" from the cooling fan relay connector. Strip and crimp both leads from the relay connector in one end of a #12 butt connector (C9AB-14488-D) (Figure 13).
3. Strip and crimp the harness end of (Circuit #37 -Yellow) into the other end of the butt connector.
4. Using friction tape (ESB-M3G71-A), tape the end of circuit #354 (Light Green with Yellow Stripe) wire feed back to the harness. Make sure that the cut end is adequately insulated.
5. Connect the battery and perform a system check by connecting a jumper wire between the #197 circuit Tan-Org Dot and electrical ground. The engine cooling fan should operate.
6. Install 1982 level Fan Warning Decal (E1EE-8653-AA) over the existing decal.
