Customer concerns of poor fuel economy, erratic idle speeds, and engine running rough may be attributable to an inoperative or intermittent choke function. This may be due to high resistance or a loose choke feed wire. The 1981 and 1982 choke wire lead connector is made of brass; the following procedure should be used to install a new steel connector.

1. Remove the air cleaner.
2. Remove the choke cap wire, and cut the existing connector and approximately four (4) inches of wire from the vehicle harness wire.
3. Install the choke wiring assembly E2AB-9E692-AA, by inserting the harness wire into the butt splice connector of the 9E692 assembly and crimp firmly.

CAUTIONARY NOTE:
Do not remove or install wire connector to choke cap bullet connector at any angle; it must be removed or installed in a parallel on or off movement.

4. Verify electrical choke function.
5. Install air cleaner assembly.
