CALIBRATIONS: ALL WITH ATX
Concerns of choke loading during cold starts and driveaway at low temperatures can be alleviated by installing a new choke pulldown diaphragm spring.
1. Remove the carburetor from the engine as outlined in the 1982 Car Shop Manual Powertrain Escort/Lynx, EXP/LN7 - Group 24-13-7.
2. Remove the pulldown diaphragm cover, and remove and discard original choke pulldown diaphragm spring.
3. Install a new choke pulldown diaphragm spring E3PZ-9P652-A. Install the choke pulldown diaphragm cover.
4. Set the choke pulldown to the upper limit of the appropriate carburetor specification as outlined in the 1982 Car/Truck Shop Manual Engine/Emission Diagnosis Section.
5. Reinstall the carburetor on the engine and verify the idle speeds.
Obtain an Authorized Modifications decal and list the date, dealer number and summary of alterations performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications decal. Clean the area, install the decal and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
