Vehicles which exhibit surging/bucking at steady speed or light acceleration can be serviced by replacing the EGR valve.
1. Check the integral back pressure EGR valve for function according to the 1983 Engine/Emission Diagnosis Manual Section 6.2.
2. Road Test: Install a vacuum gauge in the manifold vacuum line. Perform a 10-12 inches manifold vacuum crowd in second and in third gear at 15-20 mph. If the manifold vacuum pulsates and the vehicle bucks or surges, the EGR valve is oscillating. Remove and replace the EGR valve with a E2GZ- 9D448-J EGR valve. Retest to verify fix.
