Disassembly
1. To avoid damaging throttle plates and to facilitate working on carburetor, install four bolts approximately 2.25 inches long and of correct diameter and eight nuts on carburetor base.
2. Remove fuel filter.
3. Remove six air horn attaching screws and nuts, opening throttle plate enough to clear fast idle screw.
4. Carefully lift air horn assembly and air horn gasket as a unit and turn air horn over.
5. Remove float hinge pin, float and inlet needle.
6. Remove inlet needle seat and gasket.
7. On 1982 models, remove fuel return line check valve and fitting.
8. Remove three electric choke retaining screws as follows:
a. Check rivets to determine if mandrel is well below rivet head. If mandrel is within rivet head thickness, drive down or out using 1/16 inch diameter tip punch.
b. Using 1/8 diameter or No. 30 drill, drill into rivet head until rivet head comes loose from rivet body. Excessive pressure on drill bit may cause rivet to spin in hole.
c. Using 1/8 inch diameter punch, drive remaining rivet out of hole.
d. Repeat steps 8a through 8c on remaining rivet.
e. Remove standard screw.
9. Remove retaining ring, electric choke unit and choke housing index shield.
10. Remove three choke housing screws, then slide housing away from carburetor cover and disengage primary choke link.
11. On 1982-83 models, remove O-ring from vacuum passage.
12. On all models, remove choke pull down cover retaining screws, then the cover and spring.
13. Disengage choke assist spring from choke housing.
14. Remove choke housing shaft nut, lock washer and choke (dechoke) lever.
15. Slide choke housing shaft and choke thermostat actuating lever assembly outward.
16. On 1982-83 models, pull choke pulldown diaphragm assembly outward until shaft bottoms on plastic retaining collar, then depress plastic clip and carefully slide diaphragm assembly out.
17. On 1984-85 models, pull choke pulldown diaphragm assembly outward until modulator collar bottoms on plastic guide bushing, then depress plastic clips on bushing and carefully slide diaphragm assembly out.
18. On 1982-83 models, remove vacuum throttle kicker, if equipped.
19. On 1984-85 models, remove idle speed control assembly, if equipped.
20. Remove four accelerator pump cover screws, then the accelerator pump cover, pump diaphragm and pump return spring.
21. Using suitable tool, remove accelerator pump nozzle.
22. Using tool T81P-9510-A or equivalent, remove idle fuel shut-off solenoid with gasket or washer.
23. On 1982 models, remove bowl vent solenoid assembly and washer.
24. Remove three power valve cover screws, power valve cover, spring and diaphragm.
25. Remove dashpot assembly, if equipped.
26. On 1984-85 models, remove idle jet retainer clips and float bowl gasket.
27. Remove idle mixture concealment plugs as described under ``Concealment Plug Removal.''
28. Count and record the number of turns required to lightly seat the idle mixture adjustment needle to the nearest 1/16 turn, then remove needle, O-ring and spring.
29. Remove primary and secondary discharge nozzles, identifying nozzles and referencing top to bottom.
30. Remove primary and secondary idle jet holder, identifying them by number.
31. Remove high speed air bleed.
