Idle Speed: Adjustments

1. Place transmission into Neutral or Park and operate engine until normal operating temperature is obtained.
2. Position fast idle adjustment on the second step of the fast idle cam, Fig 113. Operate engine until cooling fan begins to operate.
3. Apply throttle to allow fast idle cam to rotate, then place transmission in specified gear and check or adjust curb idle speed to specification.
4. Place transmission into Neutral or Park and momentarily increase engine speed. Place transmission in specified gear, then check and adjust curb idle speed, if necessary.
5. If carburetor is equipped with dashpot, check and adjust clearance to specification.

4-140 Engine With 5200, 6500 Model Carburetors

NOTE: No A/C-ON adjustment is required for these carburetor models.

1. Place transmission into Neutral or Park and operate engine until normal operating temperature is obtained.
2. Position A/C-Heat selector to "OFF" position.
3. Disconnect engine electric cooling fan connector, if equipped.
4. Place transmission into specified gear.
5. Check and adjust curb idle speed to specification, Figs. 114 through 120.
6. Place transmission into Neutral or Park and momentarily increase engine speed. Place transmission into specified gear and check curb idle speed. Adjust if necessary.
7. Connect engine electric cooling fan connector, if equipped.
