Idle Speed: Adjustments

V6-232 W/2150 OR 7200 CARBURETOR

NOTE: Refer to Tune Up Specifications chart for curb and fast idle speeds.

1. Place transmission into Neutral or Park.
2. Start and allow engine to reach normal operating temperature.
3. Connect a suitable tachometer onto engine as per manufacturer's instructions.
4. Place A/C-Heat selector switch to OFF position, if equipped.
5. Disconnect and plug throttle kicker vacuum hose.
6. Check curb idle speed obtained. If curb idle speed obtained is not as specified, proceed as follows:
a. On except California models, turn idle speed adjusting screw, Figs. 1 and 2, until specified curb idle speed is obtained.
b. On California models, turn saddle bracket adjusting screw, Fig. 3, until specified curb idle speed is obtained.
7. Place transmission into Neutral or Park.
8. Momentarily increase engine speed, then recheck curb idle speed.
9. On California models, connect vacuum hose onto throttle kicker.
10. On except California models without A/C and all California models, check and, if necessary adjust dashpot clearance. Clearance should be .090-.140 inch.
11. On California models, proceed as follows:
a. Apply light pressure onto top of nylon nut located on the accelerator pump.
b. Turn nylon nut on accelerator pump rod clockwise until a .005-.015 inch clearance is obtained between top of accelerator pump and pump lever.
c. Turn accelerator pump rod 1 turn counterclockwise to set pump lever lash preload.
