Technical Instructions

1. Locate the 9J427 timer on the vertical support brace. Refer to the illustration.

2. Using a 5/16 inch socket, remove and retain the self tapping screw.

3. Pull downward on the timer and wiring harness for better accessibility.

4. Use a screwdriver to carefully spread the two tangs that lock the wiring harness to the timer.

5. Work the wiring harness plug out of the timer. Remove and discard the timer.

6. Obtain a new timer (E2DZ-9J427-B) and install on the wiring harness. Assure that the locking tangs are snapped firmly in place.

7. Push the timer and wiring harness back up in position and attach the new timer to the vertical support brace using the previously removed self tapping screw.

8. After the new timer has been installed, perform the following functional check:

A. Open hood and locate the diverter valve solenoid which is mounted on the rearward side of right hand (passenger) side shock tower. The part number (E2SE-9D474-AA) is stamped in ink on a metal bracket at the top of the solenoid.

B. Connect one lead of a 12 volt test light to the white wire of the solenoid and the other lead to the grey wire.

C. Turn ignition switch to "on" (run) position.

Note:
Timer will be energized for approximately two minutes after the ignition is turned to the "on" position.

D. If the test light illuminates, the timer circuit is operating properly and the system is functional. Disconnect test light and turn ignition switch off.

E. If the test light does not illuminate, check the timer installation to assure that all connections are secure.
