CALIBRATION: 2-14H - Canadian Only
Fuel economy can be improved by advancing initial timing and installing a new carburetor fuel enrichment valve.
A. Verify that the distributor vacuum line is not pinched or damaged.
B. Advance the initial timing 2~ from the current specification.
C. Install a new D5DZ-9A565-A (Brown) power valve as follows:
1. Remove the carburetor assembly, Refer to 24-25-11 of the 1982 Car Shop Manual.
2. Drain fuel into a suitable container and invert the carburetor on a padded work bench.
3. Remove the 4 power valve cover attaching screws. Discard the gasket.
4. Remove the power valve assembly. Discard valve and gasket.
5. With the gasket furnished, install a new power valve D5DZ-9A565-A for the Granada/Cougar. Torque to 100-120 in. lbs.
6. Reinstall the cover using a new gasket. Torque the screws to 13-20 in. lbs.
7. Reinstall the carburetor on the engine. Insure all vacuum, fuel and electrical connections are sound.
8. Run the engine, check for leaks and adjust curb idle speed to the specifications on the engine decal.
