Key On Engine Running Test & Code Descriptions

PROCEDURE
1. Start or restart engine.

2. After 20 seconds, increase engine speed to 3000 rpm until voltmeter pulses 2 or 3 times, then maintain that speed until service code is received. Ignore any pulses longer than 1 second.

3. Observe voltmeter and return engine to idle as soon as the output codes begin. This should take between 10 and 40 seconds. Observe and record codes.

NOTE: If voltmeter does not pulse or pulses more than 3 times in the first 7 seconds, continue to "Test 6, Tachometer Lead Check" test under "Subroutines."

a. Code 11-Continue to "Miscellaneous Test" under "Functional Tests."

b. Code 51-Continue to "Test 2, Switch No. 1 Low Temperature Switch" under "Subroutines."

c. Code 52-Continue to "Test 3, Switch No. 2 Idle Tracking Switch (ITS)" under "Subroutines."

d. Codes 62, 63, and 66-Continue to "Test 4, vacuum Switch" under "Subroutines.

e. Steady high or low reading-Continue to "Test 5, Self-Test Not Functional" under "Subroutines."
