Fig. 1 Front suspension assembly:
1. Raise front of vehicle and place safety stands under jack pads located rearward of wheels, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
2. Disconnect stabilizer bar link from lower control arm.
3. Remove steering gear attaching bolts and position gear out of way.
4. Using tool 3290-C, disconnect tie rod from spindle.
5. Install spring compressor D78P-5310-A on 1981 models, or T82P-5310A on 1982---86 models and compress coil spring until it is free of the spring seat. Ensure spring compressor is properly installed before compressing spring. Also ensure spring is sufficiently compressed to permit removal of lower control arm pivot bolts.
6. Remove two lower control arm pivot bolts, then disengage lower control arm and remove spring assembly, Fig. 1. Measure compressed length of spring and amount of curvature to aid in compressing and installing spring.
7. Reverse procedure to install. Ensure lower spring end is positioned between two holes in lower control arm spring pocket. Torque stabilizer bar to lower arm to 9 ft. lbs., steering gear to No. 2 crossmember to 35 ft. lbs.
