Fast Idle Cam
Fig. 11 Fast Idle cam adjustment:
NOTE: On some California vehicles, it is necessary to remove the carburetor to remove the rivets on the choke housing. Remove the top two rivets with a 1/8 inch diameter twist drill. The third bottom rivet is located in a "Blind" hole and is removed by lightly tapping the rear of the retainer ring using a punch and hammer. The rivet, retainer ring, choke housing and gasket can then be removed.
1. Fig. 11-Remove choke cap and place the fast idle lever in the corner of the specified step of the fast idle cam with the high cam speed positioner retracted.
- If adjustment is performed on the bench, hold throttle closed with a rubber band to maintain cam position.
2. Install stator cap, tool T77L-9848-A, and rotate clockwise until lever contacts adjusting screw.
3. Rotate adjusting screw until index mark on stator cap aligns with the specified notch on the choke casting.
4. Remove stator cap and reinstall choke cap.
