Design
The housing of the ME-SFI [ME] control unit is made out of diecast aluminum and the cover is made out of corrosion-proof sheet steel.
The ME-SFI [ME] control unit is protected against water and dusts.
The housing contains the 32-bit measuring and control electronics for the engine control.

Ground connection
The "circuit 31" ground connection is made via several ground lines to the left major assembly compartment electronics ground point (W16/5).

Power supply
The ME-SFI [ME] control unit is supplied with power by "terminal 30 fused".
When the ignition is switched on, the electronic ignition lock control unit switches on the circuit 15 relay via the chassis CAN (CAN E). The circuit 15 relay conducts the electrical system voltage from "circuit 30" to "circuit 15".

If a voltage is present on the ME-SFI [ME] control unit at "circuit 15", engine circuit 87 relay is actuated by means of a ground signal. This causes the circuit 87 engine relay to close its power contact and the voltage from "terminal 30" is led according to the respective fuses, as "circuit 87 M1.2/2.2" to the ME-SFI [ME] control unit and as "circuit 87 M1.1/1.2/2.2" to the respective engine control sensors and actuators of the engine timing.

If a voltage is present at "circuit 87 M1.2", the engine control is switched on and an output stage driver in the ME-SFI [ME] control unit takes over actuation of the engine circuit 87 relay.

In the operating voltage range it has both short-circuit protection and reversed polarity protection.

Power is supplied through several pins connected in parallel to relieve the electrical connectors.

No-load current shutoff
Information for partial function "no-load current shutoff" is documented in the function description "Energy management engine OFF function".

Variants
The engine control variants (e.g. national and exhaust variants) are activated with Xentry Diagnostics using the variant coding function. Replacement of the ME-SFI [ME] control unit is not necessary.
