Installing the rear crankshaft radial sealing ring
The rear crankshaft radial sealing ring (1 ) is vulcanized in the end cover (2). As a result, the rear crankshaft radial sealing ring (1 ) and the end cover (2) can only be replaced together. Do not reuse the end cover (2) with the rear crankshaft radial sealing ring (1 ) after removal. In addition to the sealing lip (1 d), the rear crankshaft radial sealing ring (1 ) has a protective lip (1 s). The sealing lip (1 d), the protective lip (1 s) and the contact surface (3a) on the crankshaft flange (3) must not be oiled for assembly!
1 Clean and degrease crankcase (4) and oil pan (5) in the area of the end cover (2) as well as the contact surface (3a) at the crankshaft flange (3).
2 Clean and degrease new end cover (2) in the area of the sealing compound application.
3 Apply sealing compound to the end cover (2) in the form of a bead (A) with a height and width of 2.0 mm (a 0.5) mm (see picture).
Use exclusively approved sealing compounds. Do not spread bead (A).
Mount end cover (2) within 5 minutes after application of sealing compound, otherwise this could result in leakage, which causes engine, clutch and environmental damage!
4 Mount the rear crankshaft radial sealing ring (1 ) on to the insertion toothy (6).
Ensure that the protective lip (1 s) points in the direction of the outgoing-power side and the sealing lip (1 d) points against the outgoing-power side. Otherwise, there may be leakage at the rear crankshaft radial sealing ring (1). m The rear crankshaft radial sealing ring (1 ) can be fitted on the insertion took (6) only if insertion tool (6) is fitted together with insertion tool (7) . (7) from insertion tool (6).
5 Separate insertion tool
6 Mount the end cover (2) with the rear crankshaft radial shaft sealing ring (1 ) and the insertion tool (6) on the contact surface (3a) of the crankshaft flange (3).
The contact surface (3a) must not be rubbed with emery cloth because this causes irreparable damage to the crankshaft surface rendering the crankshaft unusable.
7 Tighten the bolts (2a) crosswise in steps. Observe tightening torques.
8 Detach the insertion tool (6) from the crankshaft flange (3).
Lift the protective lip (1 s) carefully and check the correct installation position of the sealing lip (1 d).
An incorrect installation position leads to leakage, which causes engine, clutch and environmental damages. m The sealing lip (1 d) must point to the crankcase (4) along the entire circumference.
10 Check the correct installation position of the protective lip (1s).
An incorrect installation position leads to premature wear of the rear crankshaft radial shaft sealing ring (1).
The protective lip (1 s) must to the transmission housing along the entire circumference.
