GF30.30-P-3301RD Component Description For Radar Sensors Control Unit
MODEL 172.4
- with CODE (233) Distronic Plus
N62/1 Radar sensors control unit
Location
The radar sensors control unit is located at the front in the right footwell under a cover.
Task
The radar sensors control unit is the unit that evaluates the short range radar and the long range radar. To do this the radar sensors control unit fulfills the following tasks:
^ Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
^ Evaluation of input factors
^ Control of systems
^ Output of signals
Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
^ Chassis CAN (CAN E)
^ Vehicle dynamics CAN (CAN H)
^ Sensor CAN (CAN S)
Chassis CAN
As an example, the radar sensors control unit reads in the following information via the chassis CAN:
- Status of the accelerator pedal
- Drive position status
- Service brake, status
- Yaw rate status
- Wheel speeds and wheel rotation direction
- Status information from the driver assist or driving safety system
- Parking brake status
- Status of steering angle
- Position data from navigation (for the Western Europe version)
- Driver request via the cruise control lever (S40/4)
- Driver request via menu settings in the instrument cluster (A1)
The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Vehicle dynamics CAN
The signals from the following components are read in via the vehicle dynamics CAN:
- DISTRONIC electric controller unit (A89)
- Long range radar radar data
- Long range radar diagnosis data
The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Sensor CAN
The signals of the following components are read in via the sensor CAN:
- Left front bumper DISTRONIC (DTR) sensor (B29/2)
- Right front bumper DISTRONIC (DTR) sensor (B29/3)
The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors are evaluated by the integrated microprocessors and the relevant components are then actuated.
Due to the high performance of the radar sensors control unit, it is equipped with two microprocessors (each with a clock frequency of 40 MHz).
Control of systems
- Variable Speedtronic (speed limiter) (without code (494) USA version)
- Permanent Speed Limiter (winter tires)
- DISTRONIC PLUS
- Automatic deactivation of the radar sensor system (for the Western European version)
Output of signals
The signals are issued over the following connections:
^ Chassis CAN
^ Vehicle dynamics CAN
^ Sensor CAN
Chassis CAN
The radar sensors control unit takes on full control of the vehicle longitudinal movements after evaluating the input data, by sending to accelerate, decelerate and switch via the chassis CAN. Warning tones and display in the IC are also requested by the radar sensors control unit and the PRE-SAFE measures are requested via the chassis CAN.
The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Vehicle dynamics CAN
As an example the radar sensors control unit transmits the following signal via the vehicle dynamics CAN:
- Radar requirements of the long range radar (vehicle / operation-specific data)
- Brake torque requests from the following systems:
- Cruise control
- DISTRONIC PLUS
The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Sensor CAN
The radar sensors control unit transmits the following signals via the sensor CAN:
- Radar requirements of the short range radar (vehicle / operation-specific data).
The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
