Forward Looking Camera: Description and Operation
GF54.21-P-3300RD Multifunction Camera, Component Description
MODEL 172.4
- with CODE (476) Lane Keeping Assist
- with CODE (513) Speed Limit Assist
- with CODE (608) Adaptive high beams assist
A40/11 Multifunction camera
Location
The multifunction camera is under a cover at the top center of the windshield.
Task
The multifunction camera records pictures of the area in front of the vehicle. This data is processed in the integrated control unit and is used in the implementation of various functions.
The multifunction camera has the following tasks:
^ Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
^ Evaluation of input factors
^ Controlling functions
^ Actuation of components
Reading in of sensors, pickups and signals
The input factors are read in over the chassis CAN (CAN E).
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors are evaluated by the microprocessor and the corresponding components are actuated.
Controlling functions
The multifunction camera controls the following functions:
- Automatic lane recognition (with code (476) Lane Keeping Assist)
- Speed Limit Assist (with code (513) Speed Limit Assist)
- Automatic high beams (with code (608) Adaptive Highbeam Assist)
To prevent fogging in the field of view of the multifunction camera, the windshield is heated in this area. The auxiliary heater heating element (R50) is actuated directly by the multifunction camera.
Actuation of components
The signals are sent by the multifunction camera via the chassis CAN. The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic)
Design
The multifunction camera consists of the following main components which are installed inside a housing:
- Multifunction camera
- integral control unit
- Auxiliary heater heating element
The multifunction camera must be recalibrated after replacement of the multifunction camera or windshield.
