Location
The Audio/COMAND control panel is located on the center console between the front seats.

Task
The Audio/COMAND control panel includes:
- Audio/COMAND controller for navigation within the menus and selection of menu items
- "Back" button, to jump back a level within a menu
- "Delete" button, to delete individual characters or complete entries
The Audio/COMAND control panel performs the following:

Operating unit for the entertainment and communication systems integrated into the vehicle
The audio equipment provides the user with a structured and standard interface for the following system components, which can be operated using the Audio/COMAND control panel:
- Audio:
- Radio
- CD (also MP3)
- Electrical AUX connector (X39/45) (in stowage compartment (telephone compartment) below center armrest, for external audio equipment) (except code (518) Media interface)
- USB electrical connector (X115) (in stowage compartment (telephone compartment) below center armrest, for external audio equipment)
- TV (with code (865) TV tuner)
- Telephony (with address book feature, read SMS)
- Video: DVD audio, DVD video (with code (512) COMAND APS incl. DVD changer or with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation))
- Navigation (with code (512) COMAND APS incl. DVD changer or with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation))
- Internet (with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS incl. DVD changer, except code (494) USA version))

The buttons are designed as push/push buttons.
In detail the following operations are possible with the audio/COMAND control panel on the audio/COMAND controller:
- Press: Vertically downwards
- Turn: To left or right
- Tilting: in four quadrants (Y and X-direction, as well as diagonal direction)
