GF46.15-P-2001LE Easy Entry/Exit, Steering Column Adjustment, Function

GF46.15-P-2001LE Easy entry/exit, steering column adjustment, function

Function requirements, general
^ Easy entry/exit activated
^ Drive position stored

The easy entry/exit can be activated or deactivated by the appropriate selection in "Easy entry/exit" menu in the COMAND controller unit (A40/3). The "Easy entry/exit" menu is shown in the COMAND display (A40/8).

The status of the easy entry/exit function is provided by the COMAND controller unit and passed on from the central gateway control unit (N93) via the interior CAN to the left front seat control unit N32/1).

Function of easy entry/exit/steering column adjustment, general
The easy entry/exit makes it possible for the driver to get in and out of the vehicle easily. In the process the steering column is moved upwards before getting in or out.

The steering column is adjusted and the current position of the steering column is stored by the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) by actuating the steering column up and down motor (M20/2).

The corresponding requests for adjusting or storing certain positions of the steering column are output by the left front seat control unit.

The function easy entry/exit steering column adjustment is comprised of the following partial functions:
^ Move to easy entry/exit position function sequence
^ Move to drive position function sequence
^ Repeat limiter function sequence

Additional function requirements, approach easy entry/exit position
^ Intentional exit from the vehicle by removing the transmitter key (A8/1) from the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73)
^ Driver door opened

Move to easy entry/exit position function sequence
Before the in-/out position of the steering column is approached the front SAM control unit stores the current position of the steering column (driving position), in order that the initial position can be approached again after the adjustment process.

The circuit status of circuit 15 is made available by the EIS [EZS] control unit on the interior CAN.

The status of the driver door, defined by the status of the left rotary tumbler switch (A85s1) (model 216) or left front rotary tumbler switch (A85s1) (model 221), is provided by the left door control unit (N69/1) (model 216) or by the left front door control unit (N69/1) (model 221) likewise on the interior CAN. The left front seat control unit reads in all the relevant information, evaluates it and requests the front SAM control unit to approach the entry/exit position of the steering column unit via the interior CAN. The front SAM control unit receives the request and actuates the steering column up/down motor accordingly.

Move to drive position function sequence
Under the following conditions the left front seat control unit requests the front SAM control unit to approach the driving position function of the steering column:
- The driver door is closed with circuit 15 On
- A change is made from circuit 30 to circuit 15C with the driver door closed
- A change is made from circuit 15C to circuit 15R with the driver door closed
- A change is made from circuit 15R to circuit 15 On with the driver door closed

The circuit status of circuit 15 is provided by the EIS [EZS] control unit and the status of the driver door is provided by the left door control unit or by the front left door control unit on the interior CAN. The left front seat control unit reads in all the relevant information, evaluates it and requests the front SAM control unit to approach the driving position of the steering column via the interior CAN. The front SAM control receives the request and actuates the steering column up and down motor accordingly.

Repeat limiter function sequence
The repeated insertion and removal of the transmitter key in and out of the EIS [EZS] control unit leads to a change between the approach entry/exit and approach driving position functions. In order here to prevent overloading the steering column up/down motor, the number of requests is limited to five adjustment cycles.

The number of adjustment cycles is reset, as soon as the EIS [EZS] control unit provides circuit status of circuit 15R or when the left door control unit or left front door control unit reports the status driver door open or driver door closed.

The functions approach entry/exit position or approach driving position are aborted under the following conditions:
- under voltage or over voltage
- Manual adjustment request
- Memory adjustment (with code (275) Memory package (driver seat, steering column, mirrors))
- Circuit reversal or status change of driver door
- Defect in a Hall sensor integrated in the steering column up and down motor
