Campaign - Update Engine Control Module Software

SUBJECT: Models 166, 221, Model Year 2012

Update Engine Control Module Software

This Service Campaign has been initiated because Daimler AG (DAG), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that the Engine Control Module Software may not meet current OBD specifications in the subject diesel vehicles. Dealers will update the Engine Control Module Software at the next workshop visit.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:
^ Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.

^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.

Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Approximately 1978 vehicles are affected.

Procedure

Note:
^ Use DAS/xentry 01-02/12 with all associated patches or higher.

^ Follow the steps exactly as described in DAS/xentry.

Be sure to perform the following steps in order to ensure a successful control module software update:

^ Connect battery charger

^ Turn OFF all of the vehicle's electrical consumers.

1. Connect Star Diagnosis to vehicle.

2. Update engine control module software release CR60 BIN5:

Control units > View> CDI motor electronics > Control unit adaptations> Control unit programming.

3. Follow on-screen instructions.

Note:
After updating software CDI software version should be 6429038602 (for model 166).
