Interior Light Switch: Description and Operation

GF82.20-P-2000LE Manual Interior Lights Control, Function

Manual interior lights control in general
The manual interior lights control allows the interior illumination, reading illumination, vanity mirror illumination, the glove compartment illumination and the stowage compartment illumination to be switched on and off. Pressing the switches - some of which are mounted to the housing of the overhead control panel control unit (N70) - applies voltage to the corresponding components.

The manual interior lights control feature comprises the following subfunctions:
^ Function sequence for interior illumination
^ Function sequence for reading illumination
^ Function sequence for vanity mirror illumination
^ Function sequence for glove compartment illumination
^ Function sequence for stowage compartment lighting

Function sequence for interior illumination
The following components in the interior illumination can be manually switched on and off by pressing the corresponding switches:
- Front dome lamp (N70e1) via the front dome lamp switch (N70s4)
- For model 216:
Left coat hook lamp (E15/24) and Right coat hook lamp (E15/25) via the coat hook lamp switch (N70s2)
- For model 221:
Left rear interior lamp (E11/1e2) and Right rear interior lamp (E11/2e2) via the rear dome lamp switch (N70s2)

Function sequence for reading lights
The reading illumination serves to illuminate a defined area in front of the user, without having a distracting dazzling effect.
The following reading illumination components can be switched on and off manually by operating the relevant switch:
- Left reading lamp (A67e1) in inside rearview mirror unit (A67) via left front reading lamp switch (N70s6)
- Right reading lamp (A67e2) in inside rearview mirror unit via right front reading lamp switch (N70s7)

Additionally for model 221:
- Left rear reading lamp (E11/1e1) via the left rear dome lamp switch (E11/1s1)
- Right rear reading lamp (E11/2e1) via the right rear dome lamp switch (E11/2s1)

Function sequence for vanity mirror illumination
The following components for the vanity mirror illumination can be switched on and off manually by folding the corresponding mirror cover open and closing it:
- Left front vanity mirror illumination (E14/6) via the left front vanity mirror illumination switch (S101)
- Right front vanity mirror illumination (E14/7) via the right front vanity mirror illumination switch (S102)

Additionally for model 221:
- Left rear vanity mirror illumination (E15/10) via integrated switch
- Right rear vanity mirror illumination (E15/11) via integrated switch

The power supply for the vanity mirror illumination switch and the integrated switches is interrupted by folding back the mirror cover or automatically, to preserve the on-board electrical system battery (G1), after t = 30 min has elapsed following circuit 15 OFF.

Additional function requirements for glove compartment illumination
^ Circuit 15R ON

Function sequence for glove compartment illumination
The opening of a glove compartment door induces the upper control panel control unit (N72/1) loop the voltage applied to the glove box lamp switch (S17/9) to the glove box lamp (E13/1). The power supply for the glove box lamp switch is automatically interrupted by closing the glove compartment door or to preserve the on-board electrical system battery after t = 15 min has elapsed following bus idle.

Additional function requirements for stowage compartment lighting
^ Circuit 15R ON

Function sequence for stowage compartment lighting
As soon as the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73) transmits circuit 15R ON, the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) supplies voltage to the switch integrated into the stowage compartment illumination (E13/3). By opening the stowage compartment, the applied voltage is switched through to the stowage box illumination.
