Operating instructions
The left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111) can be used to display various menu items in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1):
- The system selection button (S110s3) can be used to scroll through the vehicle menus.
- It is possible to scroll within a menu in the submenus (S110s1) or in lists using the scroll forward and back button.
- The "Back" and voice control system off (S110s4) button can be used in each menu or submenu to jump into the next higher menu level.
- The OK button (S110s6) can be used to confirm the respective selection or pending messages.
All the buttons of the multifunction steering wheel button group are always fitted. Activation of the corresponding functions however depends on the equipment installed in the vehicle.

Trip menu
The following information can be called up in the trip menu:
- Standard display
- "After start" trip computer
- "After reset" trip computer
- Show instantaneous fuel consumption and range
- Digital speedometer
The data in each display window "after start" or "after reset" or the trip odometer can be reset with the OK button in the left multifunction steering wheel button group.
Navigation (navi) menu
Navigation instructions are shown in the Navi menu when the function is switched on.
When the function is switched off, the direction of travel is shown with cardinal points (e.g. "NW direction of travel").
The navigation function is switched on or off via the COMAND controller unit (A40/3).
Audio menu
The following functions can be selected in the audio menu:
- Select radio station
- Operate CD player/CD changer/DVD changer/DVD audio/MP3
- Operate DVD video
- Operate TV (with code (863) Digital/analog TV tuner)
The audio source (e.g. radio or CD) can only be selected on the COMAND controller unit.
Telephone menu
The name of the selected mobile telephone network is shown in the telephone menu when the function is switched on. It is still possible then to scroll through the stored telephone book and select an entry. When the function is switched off, the text "Telephone off" is shown.
The telephone function is switched on or off via the COMAND controller unit. The message "Ready for Bluetooth telephony" appears if no mobile telephone is detected when the function is switched on.
Assistance menu
Depending on equipment, settings in the following menus/systems can be carried out in the assistance menu:
- "Speed Limit Assist."
(on model 221 as of 1.6.09 with code (513) Speed Limit Assist)
- "Distance chart"
- "Proximity warning device"
(on model 216 with code (219) Distronic (DTR) and without code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS or on model 221 without code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS)
- "ESP"
- "PRE-SAFE brakes"
(with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS)
- "Attention Assist" (on model 221 as of 1.6.09)
- "Blind Spot Assist" (with code (234) Blind Spot Assist)
- "Lane Keeping Assist" (on model 221 as of 1.6.09 with code (476) Automatic lane recognition)
Service menu
The following functions can be selected in the Service menu:
- "Messages" (with number of stored errors or warning messages)
- "Tire pressure" (with code (475) Tire pressure monitor (Premium)) (e.g. query current tire pressure) "ASSYST PLUS" (e.g. Indication of remaining time to next service)
"Settings" menu
Changes to the following settings can be made in the Settings
menu:
- "Daytime running lights"
- "Intelligent Light System" (with code (621) Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic) or code (622) Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic))
- "Adaptive Highbeam Assist" (with code (608) Adaptive Highbeam Assist)
- "SPEEDTRONIC"
- "Additional speedo"
- "Units"
- "Radar sensor system" (on model 216 with code (219) Distronic (DTR) or with code (233) DISTRONIC PLUS)
Workshop level menu
The Workshop level menu is not a separate menu item and can be called up as follows:
- Call up the "Trip" menu and switch to the trip kilometers display
- Press the accept and end phone call button (S111s3), hold down and press the OK button within t < 1 s and hold down for t ≥ 1 s (the display switches to the workshop level)
The "workshop level" menu can only be called up with circuit status 15R ON.
Settings in the following menus/systems can be carried out in the workshop level menu
- Vehicle data
- Dynamometer test
- ASSYST Plus workshop
The on-board electrical system voltage can be displayed in the "vehicle data" submenu.
