GF83.50-P-3012LE Rear Air Conditioning Control Unit, Component Description
- with CODE (582) Rear air conditioner

Component Identification:

Location
The rear AC control unit is located in the armrest between the front seats.

Design
The rear AC control unit includes the following control and display elements:
- Left temperature rocker (1)
- Left air distribution button (2)
- Air volume button (3)
- Function mode button (4)
- Right air distribution/REST button (5)
- Right temperature rocker (6)
- Display (7)

Task
The rear air conditioning control unit has the following tasks:
^ Operation of the vehicle's climate control
^ Display messages for remote control
^ Reading in of sensors and signals
^ ending requests

Operation of the vehicle's climate control
The rear AC control unit is a pure operating unit. All settings at the rear air conditioning control unit are transmitted via the telematics CAN (CAN A) to the COMAND controller unit (A40/3), forwarded via the central CAN (CAN F) to the central gateway control unit (N93) and via interior CAN (CAN B) to the AAC control unit (N22/1).
The AAC [KLA] control unit performs all actuations of the AC functions in the rear.

The rear air conditioning can also be operated via the front central operating unit (A40/9) and the upper control panel control unit (N72/1). The buttons of the rear air conditioning control unit are then locked. The AAC [KLA] control unit reads in the specified values and calculates the blow-in temperatures and blow-in volumes for the entire interior compartment. The values to be displayed and function indicator lamps are output centrally by the AAC [KLA] control unit for all display fields. The rear display on the COMAND display (A40/8) (without code (867) SPLITVIEW) or on the SPLITVIEW display (A40/10) (with code (867) SPLITVIEW) switches automatically to front control after t = 5 s.

The rear AC control unit allows the following operations:
- Interior temperature selection, separately for left and right
- Air distribution preselection, separately for left and right
- Air volume setting
- Residual engine heat utilization system activation
- Select function mode:
- "AUTO" (automatic mode)
- "MAN" (manual mode) or
- "OFF" (switching off of rear air conditioning)

It is operated with the following buttons:
^ Temperature rocker
^ Air distribution/"REST" buttons
^ Air volume button
^ Function mode button

Temperature rocker
Pressing the temperature rockers enables the required specified temperature to be set for the left and right rear sides. The temperature is shown on the display.

Depending on the vehicle national version, the specified temperature is displayed in either °C or °F in the display.

Air distribution/"REST" buttons
The particular air distribution button can be used to manually adjust the air distribution in the rear.
The selected air distribution is indicated in the display by corresponding symbols.
With circuit 15C or circuit 15R, the residual engine heat utilization system function is activated when the right air distribution/REST button is pressed. The REST symbol appears in the display when residual engine heat utilization is active.

Air volume button
The air volume button can be used to set the blower setting. The manual control is only possible in fixed defined steps. The selected air volume is indicated in the display by corresponding symbols.

Function mode button
The function mode button can be used to select between automatic mode and manual mode, or to switch the system off. The selected function is indicated in the display by corresponding symbols.

Display messages for remote control
With remote control of the rear air conditioning via the front central operating unit and the upper control panel control unit the following messages appear in the display:
^ "Rear remote control"
^ "MAX COOL"
^ "Defrost"
^ "Mono"

"Rear remote control"
If the air conditioning in the rear is adjusted via the front central operating unit, the rear remote control symbol appears in the display for the rear air conditioning control unit. The settings selected at the front are displayed in the rear at the same time.

"MAX COOL"
If the rear air conditioning control unit receives the message "MAX COOL" from the AAC [KLA] control unit, this setting data is accepted by the rear air conditioning control unit. The letters "MAX COOL" appear in the rear display.

"Defrost"
If the rear air conditioning control unit receives the message "Defrost" from the AAC [KLA] control unit, the "OFF" and "Rear remote control" symbols appear in the display for the rear air conditioning control unit. The rear air conditioning is switched off. The buttons of the rear air conditioning control unit are locked.

"Mono"
If the rear air conditioning control unit receives the message "MONO" from the AAC [KLA] control unit, all four setting zones for the vehicle climate control (left front, right front, left rear, right rear) are coupled with the driver-side settings. Corresponding operations at the rear air conditioning control unit are implemented by the AAC [KLA] control unit and the MONO settings are switched off.

Reading in of sensors and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connection:
^ Telematics CAN

Telematics CAN
The signals are read in by the rear air conditioning control unit via the telematics CAN.
The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

Sending requests
Requests are transmitted via the following connection:
^ Telematics CAN

Telematics CAN
The signals are transmitted by the rear air conditioning control unit via the telematics CAN.
The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
