Insertion tool
The lips of radial shaft sealing ring (1) must not be touched.
When using the insertion tool always ensure that sealing lip (1d) of radial sealing ring (1) is correctly aligned.
The radial sealing ring (1) and contact surface (3a) on crankshaft flange (3) must not have any oil and grease on them.
1 Clean and degrease crankcase (4) in area of sealant application as well contact surface (3a) on crankshaft flange (3).
The contact surface (3a) must not be cleaned using abrasive paper since this would damage the surface of the crankshaft.
If manual transmission fitted
2 Clean and degrease sealing surface of new end cover (2).
3 Apply sealant in the form of a bead with a diameter of around 2.0 mm on end cover (2).
Only use approved sealants. Do not spread bead (A).
Mount end cover (2) within 5 minutes after applying sealant.
If automatic transmission fitted
4 Clean and degrease sealing surface of new end cover (2).
5 Apply sealant in the form of a bead with a diameter of around 2.0 mm on crankcase (4) and oil pan.
Only use approved sealants. Do not spread bead (A).
Mount end cover (2) within 5 minutes after applying sealant.
6 Fit insertion tool (271) and insertion tool (271a) together.
Upon subsequent assembly, the conical form of the insertion tool (271a) presses the lip (1d) into the correct direction.
7 Slide end cover (2) with radial sealing ring (1) on insertion tool (271) fitted together.
Ensure that the lip (1d) points towards the output side, that is towards the engine.
8 Detach insertion tool (271a) from insertion tool (271).
1 Radial shaft sealing ring
1d Lip
1s Protective lip
2 End cover
2a Bolts
3 Crankshaft flange
4 Cylinder crankcase
9 Insert insertion tool (271) with preassembled end cover (2) or radial sealing ring (1) into crankshaft flange (3).
10 Slide end cover (2) with radial sealing ring (1) carefully onto contact surface (3a) of the crankshaft flange (3).
While doing this, check the correct installation position of the lip (1d).
A wrong installation position leads to leakage.
The lip (1d) must point towards the crankcase (4) all around its circumference.
11 Detach insertion tool (271) from crankshaft flange (3).
12 Check for correct installation position of the protective lip (1s).
Incorrect installation position leads to premature wear of the radial shaft sealing ring (1).
The protective lip (1s) must point towards transmission housing around its entire circumference.
13 Tighten bolts (2a) gradually diagonally.
