GF82.85-P-2030LEJ Audio Mode, Function
- with CODE (529) HIGH Class Japan

Function requirements
^ Status "Circuit 30 ON" or "Circuit 15R ON"
^ COMAND controller unit (A40/3) has been activated via the "ON" button (A40/9s6) at the front central operating unit (A40/9)
^ "Audio" menu selected
^ No fault in antenna system (radio function)
^ Radio station broadcasts additional digital information (Vehicle Information and Communication System (VICS))
^ Data DVD/CD inserted
^ The hard drive in the COMAND controller unit is operating error-free

General
The audio mode consists of the following component functions:
^ Radio mode function sequence (AM/FM)
^ Function sequence, disk and MP3
^ Music Register function sequence

Operating instructions
Audio functions can be selected, activated and adjusted with the following components:
- Control buttons of the front central operating unit
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110)
- Right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)

Radio mode function sequence (AM/FM)
The antenna structures in the rear window receive high frequency (HF) signals for the FM and AM (MW) radio frequency bands. The following useful signals relevant for the radio reception are modulated onto these HF signals:
- Music signals
- Speech signals
- Data signals (e.g. VICS signals for current traffic information)

These HF signals are routed to the rear window antenna amplifier module (A2/12) via direct lines. This amplifier filters the frequencies of the radio frequency bands out of the received HF signals and amplifies them. The amplified signals are then sent via coaxial cable (FM, AM) to the audio tuner control unit (N93/1), where they are demodulated. The interface for user guidance is generated by the COMAND controller unit and shown on the COMAND display (A40/8).

The demodulated audio signals also undergo final amplification in the audio tuner control unit. In model 221, the audio is then output on the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left front door speaker group (H4/1), except code (810) Sound system
- Right front door speaker group (H4/2), except code (810) Sound system
- Left rear door speaker group (H4/3)
- Right rear door speaker group (H4/4)
- Bass box speaker (H4/17)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54), with code (810) Sound system
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57), with code (810) Sound system
- Left front door sound tweeter (H4/68), with code (810) Sound system
- Right front door sound tweeter (H4/69), with code (810) Sound system
- Left front door sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/72), with code (810) Sound system
- Right front door sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/73), with code (810) Sound system

In model 216, the audio is output on the following speakers via direct lines:
- Left door rear speaker (H4/3)
- Right door rear speaker (H4/4)
- Bass box speaker
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
- Left rear surround speaker
- Right rear surround speaker
- Left door sound tweeter (H4/68)
- Right door sound tweeter (H4/69)
- Left door sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/72)
- Right door sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/73)

The function sequence for the radio mode also includes the following subfunctions:
^ AM tuner function
^ FM tuner function with phase diversity

AM tuner function
In this radio frequency band, the wanted signals are broadcast by means of amplitude modulation (AM). These signals are demodulated by the AM tuner integrated into the audio tuner control unit. In other words, it separates the useful signals (audible frequencies) from the carrier signal (inaudible).

FM tuner function with phase diversity
In this radio frequency band, the useful signals are broadcast using frequency modulation (FM). These signals are demodulated by the FM tuner integrated into the audio tuner control unit. In other words, they also separate the useful signals (audible frequencies from the carrier signal (inaudible). Reception-dependent switchover between the antenna amplifiers is also carried out by the audio tuner control unit. This function runs automatically.

Function sequence, disk and MP3
A 6-disk DVD player is integrated in the COMAND controller unit. This DVD player can play the following media and formats:
- Video DVD
- Audio DVD
- DVD-ROM (Audio/video data)
- Audio CD
- CD-ROM (Audio or video data)
- CD-R
- CD-R/W
- MP3

The user guidance for controlling the DVD functionality (e.g. track selection) and for displaying supplemental information (e.g. track) is provided via the COMAND display.

Music Register function sequence
The "Music register" function allows files from an audio CD to be stored on the hard disk in the COMAND controller unit. The stored music files can be called up as desired.
