Location
The audio/video controller control unit is located freely accessible in the horizontal plane on the rear center console.

Central control unit for rear entertainment system
The audio/video controller control unit can implement the following applications and display of the user interface using the selection menu through the left rear display (A40/5) or right rear display (A40/6):
- Disk:

- TV, with code (863) Digital/analog TV tuner or with code (529) HIGH Class Japan
- AUX1 (e.g. video cameras, MP3 player or games consoles)

Audio/video devices or audio or video sources can be controlled in the following ways:

Audio output control
Controls the audio output for the headphones, which are connected via the headphone sockets integrated into the left rear display and right rear display.
For vehicles with code (810) Sound system the audio output is also sent via a low frequency (NF) line (stereo line) and the audio tuner control unit (N93/1) to the following speakers:
- Left rear door speaker group (H4/3)
- Right rear door speaker group (H4/4)
- Bass box speaker (H4/17)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
- Left rear surround speaker (H4/54)
- Right rear surround speaker (H4/57)
- Left front door sound tweeter (H4/68)
- Right front door sound tweeter (H4/69)
- Left front door sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/72)
- Right front door Sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/73)

Power and resource management
Detection of overvoltage/undervoltage combined with appropriate switch on/off behavior

Diagnosis gateway
The audio/video controller control unit serves as a diagnosis gateway.

Conductance of cyclical self-tests
The audio/video controller control unit permanently conducts a cyclical self-test.

Theft protection (Tracking)
The audio/video controller control unit supports the theft protection (Tracking).

CAN
The audio/video controller control unit uses the telematics CAN. It communicates with the following components:
- RCP [HBF] control unit (N72/2)
- Left rear display
- Right rear display
- COMAND control unit, with code (526) COMAND with single DVD drive (without navigation), with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (529) HIGH Class Japan

Decoding of signals
Decodes analog or digital audio and video signals into analog audio and video signals for the audio and video sources rendered available through the following connection options and components:
- AUX1:
- For example, portable DVD player, video cameras, MP3 players or games consoles
- AUX2:
- For example, portable DVD player, video cameras, MP3 players or games consoles
- Integrated DVD drive

Function
DVD drive (single slot)
The DVD drive of the audio/video controller control unit is a single-slot drive. As well as DVD video and audio media, it can also play CD audio media and MP3 files. It can also play media protected by popular copy protection systems and recorded blanks (CD R/RW; DVD R/+R/RW).
The DVD drive has a "DVD Disk Auto Detect" function.
