GF82.60-P-2030LEU Hd Radio (High Definition Radio) Function

GF82.60-P-2030LEU HD Radio (High Definition Radio) Function
- with CODE (517) HD radio

Function requirements, general
^ C. 30g ON or c. 15R ON
^ System is authorized and operating properly
^ The SDAR antenna (A2/82) (model 216) or the telephone and GPS roof antenna (A2/49) (model 221) operates correctly

The SDAR antenna on model 221 is integrated into the telephone and GPS roof antenna.

High-Definition (HD) radio, general
The HD radio function is implemented in the high definition tuner control unit (N87/8), which is a combined AM/FM/Weather Band (WB) receiver with HD radio function and a satellite radio for receiving audio and traffic data.

The HD radio feature allows the following signals to be received:
- Analog AM/FM signals
- Digital AM/FM signals
- WB signals

FM signal reception is optimized by use of a double tuner.

The HD radio function allows additional reception of digital carrier waves for analog AM/FM programs, which are also broadcast b the stations.
The HD radio function improves the audio quality using digital technology:
- FM (96 kbit/s):
- CD sound quality (no multipath interference)
- AM (36 kbit/s):
- FM sound quality (stereo)

The stations also broadcast other audio channels and data by means of digital carriers. This supplements the program with up to two additional audio channels per frequency (e.g. foreign language program from "National Public Radio" (NPR)) and supplemental information (e.g. title and artist).
The broadcasting of additional data is known as "On Channel". The digital station is tuned to the same frequency as the analog station. The digital transmission process in the FM and AM band is known as "in-band".

The HD radio function also enables over 100 digital audio channels from the Sirius radio provider to be received together with the corresponding supplemental information.
To achieve multi-channel reception, the Sirius satellite radio signal is transmitted three times (from two satellites and one terrestrial station).
It is also possible to receive Real Time Traffic Data (RTTD). RTTD are real time traffic data that are broadcast by the satellite radio provider Sirius.
These data are available nationwide in the USA, are transmitted in loops of t = 5 min and are available in a navigation format similar to the traffic message channel (TMC).

In contrast to satellite digital audio radio (satellite radio) (SDAR), with HD radio regional stations and programs can be received without incurring fees.

The SDAR function allows the following signals to be received:
- Signals for S-band satellite and S-band terrestrial from stations of the "Sirius Satellite Radio" provider, with the traffic information signals contained therein

The system can be operated using the following components:
- Front central operating unit (A40/9)
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)

Function sequence for HD radio
The SIRIUS satellite radio signal is received by the SDAR antenna or the telephone and GPS roof antenna and forwarded over a coaxial cable to the high definition tuner control unit. In addition, the high definition tuner control unit receives the AM and FM signals directly from the rear window antenna amplifier module (A2/12).

The high definition tuner control unit decodes and demodulates the analog AM/FM signals using the two integrated double tuners, the digital AM/FM signals using the integrated HD radio decoder chip and the signals for S-band satellite and S-band terrestrial. It then transmits digital audio and data signals over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the COMAND controller unit (A40/3). The COMAND controller unit displays the information contained in the signals on the COMAND display (A40/8). The traffic data is processed by the navigation unit integrated into the COMAND controller unit.

The desired station is selected using:
- "Audio" menu
- "Radio" menu or
- "Sat Radio" menu
- "HD Radio" menu

Operation can take place using the following controls:
- Buttons on COMAND control unit
- Multifunction steering wheel button groups
- Voice control system (VCS [SBS])

The control signals from the buttons of the COMAND controller unit are processed internally.

The control signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups are transferred to the COMAND control unit over the following path:
- Steering LIN (LIN E1)
- Steering column tube module (N80)
- Chassis CAN (CAN E)
- Central gateway control unit (N93)
- Central CAN (CAN F)

When operating using the VCS [SBS], the voice commands are received by the hands-free system microphone group (A67b1) and transferred to the COMAND controller unit over a direct line.

The audio signals are output over the vehicle's speaker system. For this purpose, the high definition tuner control unit transmits the audio signals via MOST to the audio tuner control unit (N93/1), which processes them accordingly, amplifies them and outputs them over the vehicle's speaker system.
The speaker system in model 216 comprises the following components:
- Left door rear speaker (H4/3)
- Right door rear speaker (H4/4)
- Bass module speaker (H4/17)
- Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)

- Right door Sound tweeter (H4/69)
- Left door Sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/72)
- Right door Sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/73)

The speaker system in model 221 comprises the following components:
