GF82.85-P-3136LEU COMAND Controller Unit, Component Description
GF82.85-P-3136LEU COMAND Controller Unit, Component Description
- with CODE (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system)
Component Identification:
Location
The COMAND controller unit is installed into the center console.
Task
The COMAND controller unit fulfills the following tasks:
^ Processing unit for entertainment and communications systems
^ Reading in of signals
^ Evaluation of input factors
^ Actuates output media
Processing unit for entertainment and communications systems
The COMAND controller unit provides the user with a structured and uniform interface via the COMAND display (A40/8). The COMAND controller unit generates uniform and user-friendly displays for all individual components integrated in the system.
Reads in the controls and input signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
^ Direct line
^ Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN)
^ Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
Direct lines
The following signals are read in via direct lines:
- Wake-up (MOST)
- AUX input
- Global Positioning System (GPS) signal from the antenna splitter (A2/5)
- Composite Video Baseband Signal (CVBS) from the reversing camera power supply module (N66/10) (in model 221 with code (218) Reversing camera)
CAN
The signals are read in via telematics CAN (CAN A) and central CAN (CAN F). The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
MOST
Depending on the equipment, the COMAND controller unit communicates with the following control units via MOST:
- Voice control system control unit (VCS [SBS]) (N41/3) (up to 31.5.09 with code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS])
- SDAR control unit (N87/5) (with code (536) SIRIUS satellite radio)
- High definition tuner control unit (N87/8) (as of 1.6.09 with code (517) HD radio)
- Audio tuner control unit (N93/1)
- Universal Portable Cell Phone Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit (N123/1) (up to 31.5.08 with code (389) Mobile phone preinstallation with universal interface, USA/Canada)
- Media interface control unit (N125/1) (as of 1.6.09 with code (518) Media interface)
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors are processed and evaluated by the COMAND controller unit.
Actuates output media
Output media are actuated with the following connection:
^ Direct line
^ CAN
^ MOST
Direct line
The following output medium is actuated via a direct line:
- COMAND display via a low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) line (picture and video signals)
The following system components are actuated internally:
- Map navigation with hard disk as data memory (data update via a special navigation DVD)
- Card reader for Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) cards with MP3 files
- DVD ROM drive (single slot or 6-disk DVD changer with single slot)
CAN
The signals are transmitted via telematics CAN and central CAN. The functions resulting therefrom are described in the corresponding function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
MOST
Depending on the equipment, the COMAND controller unit communicates with the following control units via MOST:
- Voice control system (VCS [SBS]) control unit
- SDAR control unit
- High-definition tuner control unit
- Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit
- Media interface control unit
Design
Integrated into the COMAND controller unit are the following:
- DVD changer
- Central computer
- Interfaces to MOST, telematics CAN, and central CAN
- Navigation processor
- Hard disk
Diagnosis
The COMAND controller unit serves as the diagnostic interface for all control units at the MOST and at the telematics CAN. Each control unit on the MOST or the telematics CAN has a separate fault memory. While the COMAND controller unit is active, the system saves all errors that have occurred in the nonvolatile memory. They can be read out via diagnostic CAN (CAN D) and data link connector (X11/4).
