GF82.95-P-0004-04CAU Emergency Call System, Operating Instructions
- with CODE (359) TELE AID emergency call system
The operating instructions are compiled as follows:
^ Manual emergency call ("E-Call")
^ Automatic emergency call ("E-Call")
^ Vehicle tracking
^ Breakdown assistance ("Roadside Assistance")
^ "MB-Info call"
^ Vehicle remote door unlock ("Remote Door Unlock")
^ Vehicle remote door lock ("Remote Door Lock")
Manual emergency call
A manual emergency call can be accomplished by pressing the emergency call system button (S93/3), denoted by the letters "SOS", integrated into the overhead control panel electronics (N70/3). The emergency call system button is covered up with a locking flap. Pressing the protective lid unlocks the lid, and it automatically opens with the aid of a spring mechanism. The actual emergency call system button is designed as a normally closed contact.
When the emergency call system button is pressed for at least t = 0.5 s, the emergency call system is activated. When a manual emergency call is initiated, the red light emitting diode in the emergency call system button flashes for the time the manual emergency call is effective. This is also indicated in the instrument cluster (A1) and on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8).
automatic alarm call
A vehicle crash is detected by the supplemental restraint system control unit (N2/10). The emergency call system control unit (N123/4) receives this crash information (crash event) as a digital crash signal from the supplemental restraint system control unit over a direct line and redundantly over the diagnostic CAN (CAN D). The crash level (accident severity) is also sent over the diagnostic CAN to the emergency call system control unit.
In the event of a crash signal, an emergency call is automatically sent out immediately. The severity of the crash detected does not play a part. Following initiation, the red LED in the emergency call system button starts to flash and keeps doing so for as long as the emergency call lasts. This is also indicated in the instrument cluster and on the Audio/COMAND display.
Vehicle tracking
After triggering (e.g. due to theft message from customer by telephone), the vehicle position and vehicle condition data is transferred to the service center by mobile telephone. From there, the data is relayed to the police or security services.
The position is transferred cyclically or on the basis of various events:
- When a specific distance is exceeded
- Recognition of damage or manipulation to vehicle
- Circuit 15 ON or circuit 15 OFF (switching the ignition on or off)
Roadside assistance
The breakdown assistance button (S93/6s2) is integrated into the overhead control panel electronics. To initiate the breakdown assistance call, the breakdown assistance button has to be pressed for t > 0.5 s.
Activation is indicated by the LED in the breakdown assistance button flashing. This is also indicated in the instrument cluster and on the Audio/COMAND display.
When the breakdown assistance button is pressed, data (vehicle identification number (VIN), vehicle model, etc.) is automatically sent to the service center.
Detailed circumstances and other service requirements can then be discussed between the driver and service center over the still existing voice connection. If required, the service center informs the Mercedes-Benz field organization, which then takes suitable action.
MB information call
The MB-Info button (S93/6s1) is integrated into the overhead control panel control unit. Pressing the MB-Info button for t > 0.5 s initiates activation of the MB-Info service. This is indicated by the LED in the MB-Info button flashing. This is also indicated in the instrument cluster and on the Audio/COMAND display.
When the MB-Info button is pressed, data (vehicle data (VIN, vehicle model, etc.) is automatically sent to the service center. The customer request can then be processed over the still existing voice connection.
Vehicle remote unlocking
If the driver has locked himself out (transmitter key (A8/1) locked in vehicle or lost), he can report to the service center, identify himself and request remote door unlocking of the vehicle.
The driver and service center agree upon a period of time during which the trunk lid external operation switch (S88/8) must be actuated for at least t = 15 s.
The emergency call system then notifies by mobile radio the relevant service station about activation of the trunk lid external operation switch. Simultaneously, a message appears in the instrument cluster indicating that the service is being performed. In addition, the red light-emitting diode in the emergency call system button flashes.
The service center checks whether the corresponding request from the driver is pending. If plausibility is checked and found to be successful, a request is sent over mobile radio from the service center to unlock the vehicle.
If "Vehicle remote door unlock" is refused by the service center because, for example, the trunk lid external operation switch was not actuated at the time agreed on or legitimization was incorrect, the vehicle remote door unlock function is disabled for t = 15 min.
Vehicle remote locking
The driver notifies the service center, legitimizes himself/herself and requests remote door locking of the vehicle by mobile radio. The service center then sends by mobile phone the request for vehicle remote door locking.
The vehicle receives the request and then implements it, where technically feasible. Finally, the vehicle sends feedback to the service center as to whether the request was implemented or not. The service center then informs the driver of the result.
