GF88.79-P-2002CA Fold Left/right Outside Mirror, Function
- with CODE (249) Automatically dimming inside rearview mirror and outside mirror including fold-in outside mirrors
- except CODE (494) USA version

General function requirements
^ No overvoltage or undervoltage

Folding left/right outside mirror function sequence, general
The left outside mirror (M21/1) and right outside mirror (M21/2) can be folded in and out electrically.
This can be done both automatically as well as manually.
The left front door control unit (N69/1) has the master function during adjustment and relays the necessary signals to the right front door control unit (N69/2) via the interior CAN (CAN-B)

If a new adjustment request is recognized while adjustment is in progress, the adjustment is directly switched to the opposite direction.

The fold left/right outside mirror function comprises the following subfunctions:
^ Manual folding in/out, function sequence
^ Automatic folding in/out, function sequence
^ Function sequence for automatic fold-out via speed signal

Function sequence for manual folding in/out
The manual fold-in and fold-out subfunction consists of the following subfunctions:
^ Manual folding in function sequence
^ Manual folding out function sequence

Additional function requirements for manually folding in
^ Outside mirror folded out
^ Circuit 15R ON
^ Vehicle speed v < 47 km/h

The electronic ignition switch control unit (N73) sends the terminal status of terminal 15 over the interior CAN
The vehicle speed is provided by the instrument cluster (A1) on the interior CAN.

Manual folding in function sequence
S20s9By pressing the outside mirror fold in/out switch in the driver power window and outside mirror adjustment switch group, the two outside mirror housings can be folded in (garage position).S20 The adjustment request from the outside mirror fold-in/fold-out switch is read in by left front door control unit over the left door LIN (LIN B5) and sent to the right front door control unit over the interior CAN. The left front door control unit actuates the outdoor mirror fold-in/ fold-out electric motor (M21/1m3) in left outside mirror and the right front door control unit actuates the outdoor mirror fold-in/fold out electric motor (M21/2m3) in the right outside mirror.
The actuation duration is t = 5s s.

Additional function requirements for manual fold-out
^ Outside mirror folded in
^ Circuit 15R ON

Manual folding out function sequence
The mirror housing can be moved to the driving position by actuating the outside mirror fold-in/fold-out switch. The adjustment request from the outside mirror fold-in/fold-out switch is read in by left front door control unit over the left door LIN (LIN ) and sent to the right front door control unit over the interior CAN.
The left front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/ fold-out electric motor in the left outside mirror and the right front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/fold-out electric motor in the right outside mirror.
The actuation duration is t = 5s s.

Additional function requirements for automatic fold-in/out
^ Function activated in instrument cluster

For this purpose it is necessary to activate the function "Fold mirror in when locking" in the "Comfort" menu on the multifunction display (A1p13) using the left multifunction steering wheel key group (S110).
The control signals from the multifunction steering wheel button groups are read in by the steering column tube module control unit (N80) via the steering LIN (LIN E1) and transmitted to the instrument cluster via the chassis CAN (CAN E). The instrument cluster transfers the function enable to the left front door control unit via the interior CAN.

Automatic folding in/out, function sequence
The subfunction "Automatic fold-in and fold-out" consists of the following subfunctions:
^ Automatic folding in function sequence
^ Automatic folding out function sequence

Additional function requirements for automatically folding in
^ Terminal 15C OFF

Automatic folding in function sequence
When the vehicle is locked with the central locking (CL) from outside with the transmitter key (A8/1) both outside mirrors are folded in automatically (garage position).

The electronic ignition switch control unit sends the status of the CL via the interior CAN to the left front door control unit and the right front door control unit.
The left front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/ fold-out electric motor in the left outside mirror and the right front door control unit the outside mirror fold-in/fold-out electric motor in the right outside mirror.
The actuation duration is t = 5s s.

Detailed information on the CL is given in the separate function description "Central Locking (CL).

Additional function requirements for automatic folding out
^ Outside mirror folded in
^ CL locked

Automatic folding out function sequence

When the vehicle is unlocked from outside using the CL with the transmitter key, both mirror housings are folded back out to their previous positions (driving positions) automatically when one of the doors is then opened.
The electronic ignition switch control unit sends the status of the CL over the interior CAN to the left front door control unit and the right front door control unit.
Opening the driver door is detected by the left front door rotary tumbler switch (A85s1) in the left front door lock (A85). The rotary tumbler switch signal is read in by the left front door control unit.

The left front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/ fold-out electric motor in the left outside mirror and the right front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/fold-out electric motor in the right outside mirror.
The actuation duration is t = 5s s.

If the outside mirrors are still folded in with circuit 15R ON by a previous automatic folding-in procedure, the mirror housings are folded out immediately.

Additional function requirements for automatic fold-out via speed signal.
^ Outside mirror folded in
^ Status of circuit 15C changes to circuit 15 On

Function sequence for automatic fold-out via speed signal
The outside mirrors are folded out automatically when the vehicle speed v exceeds 47 km/h.
The vehicle speed is provide on the interior CAN by the instrument cluster.

The left front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/ fold-out electric motor in the left outside mirror and the right front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/fold-out electric motor in the right outside mirror.
The actuation duration is t = 1s s.

After exceeding a speed of v > 47 km/h is no longer possible to fold in the outside mirrors.
